Apple’s Third-Generation AirPods Are Still Coming Before The End Of 2021 According To A New Report

Apple’s third-generation AirPods will get a refresh before the end of this year, according to a new report. Rumors had previously suggested that Apple would release the new earbuds during the iPhone 13 event, but that came and went with no audio announcement.

Apple has long been rumored to have the new AirPods designed and even in mass production, but nothing has as yet been announced officially.

Now, the notoriously hit and miss DigiTimes says that Apple is still on track to get the earbuds into stores before 2021 draws to a close.

How that will happen isn’t clear, however. Apple doesn’t tend to hold events for AirPods alone, so it’s possible the new earbuds will be announced alongside the rumored 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro refresh. Yet more rumors have that taking place within a matter of weeks, so all eyes will be on Cupertino.

It’s also possible that Apple could simply drop its new AirPods into the online Apple Store and share an announcement via its Newsroom. That’s happened in the past, and would make plenty of sense – especially if timings don’t match the new notebooks being announced.

The refreshed AirPods are expected to look similar to the current AirPods Pro, but they won’t include the same active noise cancelation and Transparency mode features.
