Apple Releases Revised Version Of Previous 1.0.276 AirTag Firmware
Apple yesterday released a revised version of the same AirTag firmware update that it pushed out to users lat month, although it isn’t yet clear why or what changed.
As reported by MacRumors who were the first to spot it, the new build number is associated with the same existing 1.0.276 firmware what was released in June.
The new AirTags 1.0.276 firmware has a build number of 1A287b, while the old firmware had a build number of 1A276d. The 1.0.276 firmware that came out in June added anti-stalking security enhancements, and this new version likely just refines these features.
Whatever this change offers up, it isn’t likely to be a big one. Apple would have bumped the version number of there was anything significantly new in this build, and that simply hasn’t happened.
Regardless, it’s impossible for users to check which build of firmware they have installed on their AirTags and it’s also impossible for anyone to force a firmware update, too.
Anyone who doesn’t yet have firmware 1.0.276 installed on their AirTag should make sure it’s in reasonable proximity to their iPhone and leave it overnight – eventually Apple will push the update in much the same way it does AirPods updates – silently and over the air.
