Apple Just Sold Its 2-Billionth iPhone But Didn’t Tell Anyone

Apple recently sold its two-billionth iPhone according to analyst Horace Dediu. Unlike the iPhone’s billionth sale, Apple hasn’t made a big fuss about the news and that’s likely because the company no longer reports iPhone sales numbers — it’s left to analysts like Dediu to work the numbers out for themselves.

According to the analyst’s report, Apple sold its 2-billionth iPhone “just recently.”

Just recently, the 2 billionth iPhone was sold. Unlike the 1 billionth, there was no announcement, no celebration. Partly this is because Apple stopped reporting unit shipments, but partly it’s because it’s not as interesting to talk about 2 billion as it is about 1 billion. There is a desensitizing when numbers get that big.

The same report goes on to note that the spread from Apple’s cheapest iPhone all the way to its most costly is bigger than ever, with the iPhone SE selling for $399 and the most costly iPhone 13 Pro Max going for around $1600.

The spread of phone price points is wider than ever. Reaching $1600, the range still starts at $399 in the US (excluding taxes.) The total range (number of lines in each year) is increasing also, now 24 mainly due to the addition of a 1TB storage option. NB: There are now two iPhone minis (12 and 13) and one SE bringing up the rear.

This, combined with carrier incentives increasing and high trade-in values could see Apple’s iPhone enjoy another bumper year for sales, something that will be music to the ears of Apple’s investors.

Apple’s new iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max will all go on sale this coming Friday, September 24.
