Apple Could Launch Two iPhone 9 Models This Year [Report]

It’s impossible to avoid the talk of a new iPhone SE in 2020. It’s been everywhere for months, including the rumor that the phone will be called iPhone 9.

Now DigiTimes is adding to that rumor by saying that there will not just be one new iPhone 9 this year, but two.

The phone, which is expected to look similar to the iPhone 8 but with upgraded internals, will continue to use and LCD display. That’s set to be the case even if two phones arrive.

Today’s new DigiTimes report is citing sources in the supply chain, with Chipbond Technology having apparently received orders for two different LCD phones. The company produced driver chips that are used with LCD displays, which appears to be where the dual iPhone 9 release claim is coming from.

Given the market that the iPhone 9 is likely to hit, the arrival of two of them could make sense.

The phones will surely be the budget option in Apple’s lineup, potentially replacing the existing iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. If Apple intends to still offer two screen sizes this could definitely work, although neither of those sizes will satisfy those still hoping for a return of the small iPhone.
