AirPods Pro Beta 4A362b Firmware Adds New Conversation Boost Feature

Apple began offering developers the opportunity to install AirPods Pro beta firmware last month and it just released the second beta — one that adds the Conversation Boost feature that will be part of iOS 15 when it ships this fall.

The Conversation Boost feature will use the beamforming microphones inside every pair of AirPods Pro to boost the volume of conversations. It’s a feature that’s designed to make it easier to hear what people are saying during FaceTime and other video calls.

This second beta arrives after the first one added support for Spatial Audio in the FaceTime app, another feature that is part of the iOS 15 update.

While all developers can now install AirPods Pro beta firmware on their earbuds, actually doing so is an exercise in patience and frustration. Developers must jump through various hoops to get the beta installed, including using Xcode on a Mac.

And even then, the installation can take a day to happen depending on how quickly your AirPods Pro request the update.

Apple’s iOS 15 update will arrive in or around September, alongside the release of the new iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. We’re also expecting new Macs, Apple Watches, iPads, and standard AirPods to be announced around the same time.
