the only thing i really don`t understand is the fact that everyone was saying jb + unlock for 3.1.3 will not be released just so apple can`t patch it up on their next update. No if your are on 3.1.3 with the baseband 5.12.01 you can't i jailbreak or unlock your 3gs if you didn't save your SHSH on 3.1.2.

If you did this you can downgrade to 3.1.2, if you didn't do this, there is no Jailbreak at the moment.

But keep your eyes on geohot and the dev team, the release of the iPad 3g is soon and this will (maybe) be a important moment for us 3gs users

There sure are a lot of people on 3.1.3 that want unlock and jailbreak. I'm SO glad that I waited to upgrade. It may be suprising, but I JUST updated to 3.1, so that I could keep my jailbreak without headaches. Unfortunately, I also upgraded my baseband and bootloader, so I can't unlock the SIM, but at least tether for the iPad will be available!

PS 4.0 doesn't look all that amazing. Im waiting for wireless transfer, and that probably wont happen. The only way to wirelessly transfer songs is over iTunes; forcing you to pay for this “privilege”. I was sending songs over bluetooth years ago on my motorola blackjack. Now wireless transfer is no go? Apple really makes it hard to defend them sometimes…

In my case I need to downgrade my baseband. To do that I need Fuzzyband app.
I have no wifi (wifi antenna is broken), so I can't just open cydia and search for fuzzyband and download it. I need to pre-install fuzzyband. how could I do that with redsn0w?

if you downloaded with safari that may be the problem, re-download the firmware with firefox and it may work

Make sure You have the 4.0 beta 1. The jailbreak doesn't work for the beta's over 1.

Do it with iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore ipsw and redsnow 0.9.5 will reconize it.

Jailbreak it with Spirit. It is very easy and will do it so fast. Unlock it with blackra1 with blcksnow. Your phone will be back.

I too received several different errors while trying to restore my 3.1.2 3G, i believe 6014 and 6003 were the errors <or 6006 can't remember> anyways, my solution was to authorise my windows pc <normally i'm synced with my mac but it is awaiting a new lcd screen> transfer my purchases to pc itunes, and then delete all my old backups on the pc. after doing this it is currently restoring to 4.0 i'll post any negative results

The issue is that you have to have an activated iPhone. The redsn0w does not hacktivate your phone at the moment. So when u updated to 4.0, you needed a valid AT&T sim card to activate the phone as well.

Works fine for me. All u have to do is make sure you have activated the phone after you do the update.

I've tried on both Windows and Mac with the redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2 and I get the same results.

It says it does not recognize the iPhone1.2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw firmware file.

This does not work with the newest aka “final” iOS 4. It's not recognized by “redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-2″.

Make sure you get Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3 and it will work with the iOS 4.0 release code.

It will also allow you to enable Multitasking and Wallpapers from the interface instead of having to edit any files yourself!

Working on Win7. Redsn0w either hangs on “waiting to reboot” if i let go of the home button when the installtion begins, or if i count down from 30 and hold the home button the whole time, it says the installation is complete but the phone doesn't reboot and i have to hard boot the device, when it powers up, cydia isn't there. what's going on? this is super frustrating. i've tried to jailbreak at least a dozen times today.

Everything looks great.
I user RedSn0w, everything looks great.
I start messing with it and come to realize that MMS has now disapeared and Tethering is also not in my options anymore.
I have then Restored back to IOS4 with ITunes
Check the phone, MMS available
and Tethering is there also.
I Use Redsn0W 0.9.5b5-4 again
no more MMS or tethering?

you can jailbreak with pwnage tool 4.1 or 4.0.1 one of those anyway but you need a mac to do it there is no windows .exe as yet

I had the same problem as you and JackHammer after updating my jailbroken 3gs on Monday. I also noticed that many of the jailbroken features remained after the the update. I found out that I could not connect to data and had no MMS. After hours of playing around, I found that the only solution is to do a complete restore and set the iphone up as a “new Phone” this appears to be apples way of preventing future JB's. Once restores everything worked fine and the previous features that remained…gone!

Turn on your iPod
*Hold the power and home buttons down (the iPod will power off after 10 seconds, but keep holding those buttons down)
*After the iPod powers off, release the power button (but keep holding the home button down)
*After a couple more seconds, Windows will detect it. You should see a little “New hardware” popup in Windows. Now Release the Home button.

Now iTunes will see it as a DFU Mode iPod and should ask you to automatically restore its firmware. so restore

So, I do exactly what you tell me, but… Redsn0w will always stick at “Uploading Ramdisk”, at one point or another, for ages. And I mean, Ieft it for a few hours once to see if anything would happen, but nothing. Why does this happen and what to do? :/

do the whole thing again a few times. took me 3 tries. it will be successfully rebooted when your ipod screen says “downloading (somthing)”

if its stuck on waiting for reboot try:
hold power and home button 20 sec till it is out of dfu mode, then turn it turns on.
then turn it on and do this:
hold power button 5 sec
hold power and home button 10 sec
hold home butten untill it displays that it is in recovery mode in itunes

I have a 3GS running 4.0.2 (accidentally) and every time I try this process it gets stuck at “Waiting for Reboot” after the second stage. Any clue how to fix it?

worked with iPhone 3G.
the main issue is to understand, that if you install with iTunes the IPSW version 4.02 you have to pont redsn0w afterwards to IPSW version 4.00

just need some clarification before i really jail break it. currently i’m jailbreak on OS3.0.1(7A400) , firmware 04.26.08. can i just follow the step above to jail break into OS4.0 ? or is there any dependency that i should follow? pls advise from anyone that could help. million thxs
