Since Apple has renamed iPhone OS 4 to iOS 4, we thought we will update our jailbreaking guide for iOS 4.0 for both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. The redsn0w 0.9.5b4 which was released for iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 (now iOS 4) will need an update to work with this version of iOS 4. But the instructions to jailbreak would remain the same. We will let you know as soon as an update is available.

The million dollar question, how long before the new iPhone 4 is going to be jailbroken and unlocked? Well we already know that the iPhone Dev Team has already announced that they are going to release an unlock which will work on the 05.12.01 baseband on all iPhones, provided they haven’t upgraded to the latest 05.13 baseband. But since the new iPhone 4 will have the latest baseband, it will be a while before it gets fully jailbroken and unlocked. Another infamous iPhone hacker by the name of Geohot is also said to have a new bootrom exploit, which he has preserved for this new iPhone.

The title says it all. The popular unlocking tool for iPhone 3GS, 05.11.07 baseband on iPhone 3.1.3/3.1.2 has been successfully ported to work with the latest iPhone OS 4 Beta 4. This port is based on the binaries provided by msft.guy and the original blacksn0w unlock by Geohot.

The iPhone hacker behind sn0wbreeze, f0recast and BlackBreeze today accidently put up a picture on his twitter account, showing version 1.6 of sn0wbreeze which promises to jailbreak iPod touch 2G on iPhone OS 4. The picture in question was removed quickly but the folks at The Technopath were quick enough to grab the image for everyone to see.

A group of hackers are working on bringing iPhone OS 4 over to the original iPhone EDGE (aka iPhone 2G) which was released back in 2007. Due to low memory and slower processing power, Apple decided to cut further upgrade support path for iPhone 2G in OS 4. The original iPhone EDGE users enjoyed all the firmware upgrades for free up to iPhone OS 3.1.3.

Now that we have a jailbreak (developers only) for iPhone OS 4 Beta, and an upgraded version of Fuzzyband (Baseband downgrader). Technically, iPhone 3G can now be unlocked on the latest iPhone OS 4 Beta, provided that you have one of those rare iPhone 3G’s with 05.08 bootloader that is downgradable to 05.13.03 baseband of OS 4 to 04.26.08 so that ultrasn0w can unlock it.

The iPhone hacker (ih8sn0w) behind sn0wbreeze, f0recast and BlackBreeze today has posted a tweet via his twitter account in which he has confirmed to have grabbed the decryption keys for iPhone 3GS on iPhone OS 4.0 Beta. These keys can be used to decrypt the firmware so that you can explore it for exploits for a possible jailbreak.
