There has been lots of talk on the reception issue of the newly released iPhone 4. Early iPhone 4 customers are not too happy with their purchase as the device is said to be dropping signals when you hold it in your hand. While there is still no official word or acknowledgement from Apple on the issue yet, it was earlier being suggested that this was an hardware issue and Apple might have to recall all these devices for a replacement.
But now according to this new video posted on YouTube, it now looks looks like there is a bug in the current build of iOS 4 which causes this issue on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G too, running iOS 4.
Since this never happened on any iOS 3.x.x (formerly iPhone OS 3.x.x) device, this suggests a bug in the software rather than hardware. Apple must be investigating the issue right now. If it is confirmed as a bug in OS, they will definitely release a minor iOS 4.0.1 or iOS 4.1 update to fix this issue for iPhone 4 users.

I have this problem with my iPhone 3G…Incredibly annoying, i'll put it into my pocket, get it out 10 minutes later and it'll say “Network Lost”…Grrrr
Just to confirm, i am running iOS4… It was all fine before on 3.1.2 so it is a software bug rather than hardware…
(#)
sucks this wasnt tested during the years of making the phone
(#)
i heard rumors of a recall??? is this possible? and i have also heard about a pushed back release date for Canada? anyone out there here any of this??
(#)
And they'll fix the jailbreak and unlock technique too. Bravo apple for leaving an obvious bug unfixed so the hackers release their unlocks and jailbreaks just so you can fix them in one weeks time.
(#)
I'm sure this little release will also give them the chance to block out the JB and unlock tools recently issued.

OOH.. Crap.
Just when I was enjoying iOS 4.
My Battery Life on My 3G is Back to Normal. Like it was before Apple messed it up with 3.0.1 and they other 3.x.x 's
PLease Apple don't mess with my Battery life Again …I'm begging you! DanminT !!

These Apple guys are freakin' smart! They put an Issue on this iOS 4, because they wanted the Jailbreak exploit to be released, so they can patch it with a newer version, like iOS 4.0.1!!
(#)
COnfirmed. Did it here on my 3GS.
(#)
Just tested with my 3GS, goes from five bars to none. Repeated the test four or five times too.
(#)
I have had my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 3G together in a corner of my house where the signal is never great and I have to say that the iPhone 4 is better! Perhaps they took a little longer building mine…
(#)
Clearly a software issue when effecting iPhone's without the new design… the iPad had very similar connection issues, and software fixed it.
(#)
Mine wont do that
, i think its a problem with AT&T and ios4
(#)
doesnt happend on my Iphone 3G…
(#)
yep on the 3g also. its still a phone, apple. way to go.
(#)
I'm using an iphone 3GS with iOS4, but this problem doesn't occur on my phone
but I do experiencing bad quality of calling (after I update to iOS4)
like I don't hear a “tuut tuut” sound and suddenly my iPhone said that call disconnected, and it happens several times
(#)
iOS 4.0 has also killed my Navigon GPS app on my 3GS, anyone else having this problem?
Regards, Corders
(#)
i disagree, im running ios4 on a 3gs phone on the optus network in Australia and theres no problem. I get 5 bars constant.
(#)
one should really check that in engeneering mode to see whats really going on
(#)
I've an iPhone 3G, I've done the upgrade to iOS4 and receptions seems to work fine, I try to hold the iPhone like the 1st video and nothing happen… I didn't test on my 3gs yet 'cause there's no JB available…
(#)
It looks like Apple may have actually snuck this bug into the modem firmware intentionally so as to force a 4.0.1 or 4.1.0 update that would render the latest iOS4 jailbreaks and baseband unlocks useless.
It looks like Apple may have the last word despite the hackers being patient to wait for iOS 4 before releasing their exploits.
(#)
But, i am using jailbroken iOS4 with iPhone 3Gs and i dont have this problem.
(#)
crazy bug!!!!URGH, i wished that I had never upgraded to OS 4.0 on my iPhone 3GS
(#)
Just tried on my iPhone 3GS with iOS4, everything is normal, no loss of signal there!
(#)
I can't reproduce the issue with the 3g. I'd really like to know what the hell is going on here.
(#)
I have an iPhone 3GS with iPhone OS 3.1.3 (NOT IOS 4.0 !) and the network deterioration issue is present in mine as well when U press my thumb to the upper corner of the iPhone as shown in this video.
(#)
How it the iPhone in the first video NOT jailbroken when he has his name where AT&T should be?
(#)
This is crap I have the Iphone 4 and a 3GS and holding with or without cover will not make me lose signal. So get your facts correct.
(#)
They rushed alot to make it on time and didn't tested the software itself.
(#)
with the iphone 4, I see the bars drop when held in my left hand, but have not had problems making or recieving calls (even with 1 bar), and data speed seems to increase when in my left hand when running speed test App – go figure?
(#)
when u backup to your old jailbroken files that what happens
(#)
Hi Everyone, I just updated the latest software 4.0 on my IPhone and it didn't work!!!help…everything looks exactly the same but it stated that the update was successful. Please help…getting very frustrated!
(#)
Well don't press the upper corner!!!
(#)
I just upgraded my jailbroken 3GS to iOS4 and I'm having SEVERE reception problems, both voice and data… Was having no problems running OS3.xx
Am going to try reinstalling 4.0 one more time. If still same problem, going to try to downgrade back to OS3.
(#)
this is what i came across… i have 3g and before i updated to ios4 the phone was mint, it was he best phone i have ever owned.. after i updated to 4.0 i noticed that my reception was ok, but my phone was slower than a snale, when they came out with the 4.0.1 my phones performance was better, but my reception sucks ass!! before all this shitty updating i use to have a solid 5 bars in my house, now i have none, and barely in 3g network anymore, its seems as its more in the edge network more now than it ever was.. WTF i hate this crap i wish i never updated my phone!!! GG apple i hope you guys read this post cause im pissed… i honestly feel like they did this shit on purpose to piss people off so they get forced to buy the new 4g
(#)
i never jailbroke my iphone but was happy with os 3.1.3 then i let one of my friends talk me in to upgrading to 4.0.2 ….. what a piece of crap. i went from five bars to 2, 3 if i dont touch it. apple give me back 3.1.3 and i will be a happy customer. what is the point if i cant make calls! 4.0.2 is junk.
(#)
I agree. I have a 3gs, voice and messages worked fine until uploaded 4.0.1. Now, more than often, I cannot make or receive calls. Constant “Searching” message or “No service” It is not a ATT issue, since I travel from Southern California to Phoenix often, and the problem is in both cities.
Can I somehow get rid of 4.0.1 and go back to 3.0?
