Xiaomi Announces Its First Folding Phone – The Mi Mix Fold

Xiaomi today announced its first foldable phone, calling it the Mi Mix Fold. The device itself features a larger screen on the inside and a smaller one on the outside. In fact, it isn’t all that dissimilar from the familiar shape we’ve seen from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.

That internal screen is an  8.01-inch 4:3 OLED display with 2480 x 1860 resolution. The outside screen is still a large one, running 6.52-inches with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Four Harman Kardon-tuned speakers handle audio and Xiaomi is saying that we can look forward to some 3D panoramic sound from them. We’ll have to see how that pans out.

Inside you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM depending on the version you buy. Storage will come in a 256GB and 512GB configuration.

Cameras consist of a telephoto lens and an optical zoom of 3x. A 30x hybrid zoom is also available with a 108-megapixel main camera also offered. a 13-megapixel ultrawide rounds things out.

The Mi Mix Fold is available for pre-order in China right now with units shipping on April 16. Pricing starts at 9,999 yuan (around $1,521) for a model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

There is currently no indication as to when the phone will be made available internationally, however.
