Windows Phone 8.1 Cyan Update Now Available, Here’s Everything You Need To Know

Ben Reid·July 15, 2014
Having wrapped up the acquisition of Nokia earlier on in the year, Microsoft's BUILD developers conference was largely focused around the Windows Phone 8.1 update. Having been seen as a distant third place to iOS and Android thanks to its lack of key features, Windows Phone has struggled to make a dent in the market share of the Big Two, but with the newer software promising some great features including a voice assistant in Cortana, there's renewed optimism that the software giant may finally stake more than just a token claim to the smartphone industry. After the developer preview launch shortly after BUILD, Windows Phone 8.1 is this week rolling out to Lumia devices via the Cyan update, and as ever, we've got all of the major details right here.

File Manager Is Coming To Windows Phone 8.1, Here’s What It Will Look Like [Screenshots]

Aatif·May 3, 2014
Windows Phone might not be as popular as the contemporary iOS and Android platforms, but that doesn’t mean that Microsoft has given up on it already. In fact, they keep making efforts to improve the overall experience for users of the Windows Phone platform. However, when something is missing the most basic elements, we see little to no hope there. A part of it - no, a fraction of it - might change since Joe Belfiore’s confirmation of a File Manager app around the corner for Windows Phone 8.1. In fact, he had some screenshots to back up his claim as well.

Windows Phone 8.1 Will FINALLY Bring Wallpaper Support To Start Screen [Image]

Ben Reid·March 4, 2014
The leap from Windows Phone 8 to Windows Phone 8.1 doesn't, on paper, seem like much of a big deal. In fact, such a '.1' update usually suggests a couple of decent new features, a few housekeeping enhancements, and a shiny new version number. But having already seen features like Cortana, the new Action / Notification Center, the Android-esque touch buttons and the Swype-like keyboard, Windows Phone 8.1 is shaping up as a very serious release indeed. Adding to the already exciting list of upcoming additions, a new leak has shown off one rather more simple feature that Windows Phone has been lacking to date - custom wallpapers.

Meet Cortana, Microsoft’s Siri And Google Now Competitor

Ben Reid·March 4, 2014
The Windows Phone 8 update was, despite a lot of coverage, quite underwhelming in terms of features, especially given how long Microsoft had spent applying improvements. However, from what we've been seeing through leaks and word-of-mouth, the forthcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update will provide the OS with some much-needed rejuvenation, and as well as a whole new Swype-like keyboard, notification center and other such niceties, the next update looks also set to feature Cortana, Microsoft's very own Siri / Google Now incarnate. Today, new screenshots have emerged of Cortana in action.
