Tesla Launches FSD Beta In China

Tesla has launched a limited version of its much-touted Full Self-Driving features in China for the first time, but the launch hasn’t gone as well as the company might have hoped.

Electrek reports that the update has now launched after multiple delays and only includes some of the features that ship internationally including Autopilot, Cabin Camera, and an updated mapping package.

The report notes that the new release has so far received “mixed reviews” from Tesla drivers in the country. While some seem to be pleased with their new software, others believe that Tesla hasn’t been able to match the heights that had been promised previously.

One Tesla owner told Reuters about the experience with a Model 3 that was bought in 2019.

“We can tell Tesla has no choice but to deliver a knowingly restricted system. It is hard for Tesla to catch up with the smart-driving capabilities in Chinese cars, which even makes less sense given its high pricing.”

Tesla had previously told buyers of its electric vehicles that the FSD package would essentially allow them to drive themselves in a similar way to a robotaxi but has so far failed to deliver. Owners believe that, after years of delays, vehicles from other manufacturers have similar functionality at a much lower price.
