Next Generation iPhone 4G to Cost Less than its Predecessors

The biggest barrier to iPhone adoption has always been the cost of the hardware, along with the service charges that comes from the carrier’s plan. According to Katy Huberty from Morgan Stanley - an industrial analyst, the hardware cost stops about 85% of people from buying the iPhone while the service plan stops about 66%. But all this is said to change come this June, when Apple is expected to unveil the next-gen iPhone.

The newly released iPhone 3.2 SDK Beta 3 has revealed even more info on what is to come in the upcoming iPhone OS 3.2/4.0 for iPhone and iPad. In addition to supporting video conferencing through a front facing camera and external LED flash, the new firmware will also include built-in tools which will enable to do basic photo editing like crop and rotate directly on device without any third party app.

Just came across this next-generation iPhone 4G concept image which shows off a Super AMOLED screen, a front-facing camera for video conferencing via iChat, and an LED Flashlight on the backside for the 5 megapixel camera. We all know how AMOLED screens produces crisp and vivid contrasts compared to the traditional LED displays on iPhones. The recently announced Samsung Wave has gone a step further by introducing Super AMOLED display technology which is an improved version of AMOLED, seen on the devices like Nexus One.

An anonymous tipster has just dropped us a tip which reads “Apple will demo iPhone OS 4.0 on March 14th”. Digging for more info on this, we found out that Cult of Mac also received a similar a tip yesterday but since 14th March happens to be a Sunday, it is highly unlikely that Apple is going to demo or unveil their new OS on a Sunday morning.

All Apple fans and especially the iPhone lovers were much concerned whether the next iPhone will be on its way to market, or not. They may now simply relax. Ingenious tipsters at Engadget, have discovered yet another fascinating fact deep inside the Frameworks of the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK, namely: the codename of the next iPhone. It was discovered buried deep inside the platform simulator set of folders dedicated to specific models of iPhone OS-ready devices, including the iPhone 3GS, second generation iPod touch, something that was called the "K48" (the codename was the internal name for the iPad), and... the "N89." Sure, it sounds like a Nokia phone just waiting to happen. No this is not Nokia but this according to extremely knowledgeable and trusted sources, is the likely codename of the next iPhone (previous versions were called the M68, N82, and N88).

Some second hand sources have informed TechCrunch that Apple is already working on a OS X based tablet which is scheduled to hit the stores later this year. This tablet in question will be powered by Intel processor, unlike iPad which runs on Apple’s A4 processor.

Folks over at BGR have got hold of exclusive list of features, which they have been told are confirmed to be a part of the upcoming iPhone 4.0 Firmware. The next iPhone firmware is rumored to be very close, if not same as the OS on the rumored Apple Tablet. It is said to include multitouch gestures OS wide, multitasting (finally yay!), lots of UI changes including a refreshed homescreen! and more syncing options for the native contacts and calendar apps.

According to this report from Clayton Morris of Fox News, we’ll see Apple Tablet, the next-gen iPhone software dubbed as “iPhone 4”, and iLife 2010 next week at the special Apple event in San Francisco. The next-generation iPhone 4G however wont be the part of the event. Clayton, who talked to a source at Apple this morning confirms that the January 27th event will mainly focus around these three products.
