Shortly after Internet Explorer 9 was released back in March, Microsoft began releasing Platform Previews of Internet Explorer 10. These “previews” don’t include a user interface beyond a menu bar with a few essential options and therefore can’t be used as a standard browser, yet there’s a way to bring the engine from the Internet Explorer 10 developer previews to Internet Explorer 9’s user interface.

Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner at the Financial Analyst Meeting today has revealed that the Redmond based company is planning to drop a beta version of Internet Explorer 9 sometime in September of this year. Internet Explorer 9 is shaping out to be quite a significant jump over its current incarnation i.e. Internet Explorer 8. The first platform preview of IE9, which was released back in March at MIX10 had significant performance increase over IE8. The new IE9 Preview 2 has even more improvements. The first platform preview of IE9 scored an impressive 55 out of 100 on Acid3 test. This number has now reached 68.

Today, the second day of MIX10 kicked off in style at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. On this day of the conference, Dean Hachamovitch, General Manager for Internet Explorer announced the successor to IE 8, Internet Explorer 9.
