Facebook Messenger For iOS Updated With Support For iPhone 6 [Download Link]

Ben Reid·September 30, 2014
Some ten days after the official roll-out of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the official Facebook Messenger app has just been updated in compliance with both new handsets. The changelog doesn't list anything else by way of changes, but given that app developers often squeeze in a couple of gratuitous bug fixes and performance enhancements without explicitly mentioning them, this is an update recommended for all using Facebook Messenger for iOS.

Facebook Messenger Update Brings Photo Annotations To Android

Oliver Haslam·September 6, 2014
Facebook's decision to decouple its Messenger app from Facebook proper has caused much upset amongst those that rely on the feature in order to keep in touch with people. We found that our use of Facebook Messenger increased once the decoupling took place, but it seems we're in the minority.

How To Use Facebook Chat On Your Mobile Without Downloading Messenger App

Ben Reid·August 12, 2014
The fact that, some time ago, Facebook decided to separate the Messenger segment of its service into a standalone mobile app wasn't too much of an issue when it initially went down. After all, users could still easily continue to communicate using the official app, and the Facebook Messenger app was a convenient service dedicated to IM only. However, as users have noticed over the past couple of months, Facebook for iOS and Android is now a message-free zone, which, aside from being inconvenient, seems a tad unnecessary. Luckily, there's a way to circumvent the limitation, and whether you're rocking Facebook Messenger for Apple's iOS or Google's Android platform, you'll find a fairly simple workaround below.

Facebook Messenger And WhatsApp Adds Support For Android Wear Smartwatches

Oliver Haslam·August 7, 2014
Google's Android Wear initiative may be in the midst of what could be called a false start, but that problem maybe alleviated once the big software companies start to integrate wearable support into their apps. Two giants of the messaging world have done just that over the last couple of days, with both Facebook and WhatsApp issuing updates to their Android apps that give Android Wear, err, wearers a little taste of the future.

Facebook Messenger For iPad Finally Available, Get Downloading!

Ben Reid·July 3, 2014
Facebook has, in more recent times, sought to diversify its range of mobile apps, and in doing so, decided to separate the messaging component the official Facebook into a standalone, Facebook Messenger app. The move has worked very much to the benefit of the Facebook experience as a whole, but while the iPhone version has been knocking around for quite a while, the iPad version has been conspicuous by its absence. Now, though, the Menlo Park firm has rolled out a version tailored to Apple's prized tablet, and below, we've got all of the details.

Facebook Pulling Chat From Main App, Wants You To Use Messenger App Instead

Paul Morris·April 10, 2014
The company has been applying a lot of man hours and internal resources into not only polishing and fine tuning the Messenger app, but also implementing, testing and experimenting with new features. This month's introduction of free-of-charge VoIP calling has finally accelerated the product to the point where Facebook feels comfortable enough to remove chat from its main app, a move that will be rolling out over the next eight weeks.

Facebook Messenger For iPhone, Android Updated With Free Wi-Fi Calls For All

Paul Morris·April 4, 2014
Facebook's commitment to mobile has undoubtedly been questionable in the past. The purchase of Instagram and subsequent acquisition of WhatsApp has proved that Mark Zuckerberg's social network definitely sees native mobile experiences as of paramount importance to the company's immediate future. However, it's the continuing development of the Messenger app that manages to convince us that the small screen is extremely important to Facebook. It's only been a matter of days since Messenger was updated with a powerful group management system, but version 4.1 for iPhone and Android is already here, bringing with it the introduction of unlimited free voice calls via a Wi-Fi connection.

Official Facebook Messenger App For Windows Phone Now Available [Download Link]

Paul Morris·March 5, 2014
Remember when Microsoft promised that the official Facebook Messenger app would be making an imminent appearance on Windows Phone? That announcement was made back in February, with Joe Belfiore announcing that the native Messenger app will introduce additional features above and beyond those found in the system based Facebook messaging integration. Belfiore, Microsoft and Facebook have stayed true to that promise, with the official Facebook Messenger app for Windows Phone now available to download from the Windows Phone Store.

Oliver Haslam·November 14, 2013
