Some iMacs Are In Short Supply, Suggesting A Refreshed Or Redesigned Model Is Imminent

We saw recent claims by leaker Sonny Dickson that Apple intends to announce a redesigned iMac as soon as WWDC this month. Now we’re seeing something that might add fuel to that fire – stocks of iMac are running short, especially in terms of the larger 27-inch model.

While the 21.5-inch iMac doesn’t seem to be as supply constrained right now, that might simply be a case of being the less popular model and taking longer to sell through. If that’s the case, we might expect the larger iMac to sell out more quickly.

Current shipping times for the larger iMac run into late June and early July. To put that into perspective, Apple will kick WWDC off on June 22 and may well announce a refreshed iMac on that date. That would give Apple the opportunity to ship the new machine out to those who already placed orders, as it has done in the past.

Apple tends to allow stocks to run dry when it intends to release a new or refreshed model. Given the previous rumor that a new iMac is coming, this would make sense here.

That new iMac is said to have an AMD GPU and an iPad Pro-like design. It isn’t clear exactly what that means, but it’s enough to have us very interested indeed.

As if WWDC wasn’t already interesting enough, now we have the potential of a new iMac to look forward to!
