Rumor: New 12-Inch MacBook Will Be A Pro Machine With M2 And M2 Max Chips

Apple was recently reported to be working on a new 12-inch MacBook, but according to a new tweet by leaker Makin Bu, that machine could actually be a MacBook Pro.

Yesterday saw Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman report that Apple is already hard at work on a new 12-inch notebook, although he said it wasn’t clear where that machine would sit in the lineup.

Many had assumed that it would be similar to the fanless 12-inch MacBook that was discontinued in 2019, but leaker Majin Bu says their sources suggest that the machine will actually be a MacBook Pro when it arrives in 2023. However, it isn’t yet clear whether that device will use an M2 Pro or M2 Max chip, but either way it seems destined to come with a fan to keep it cool.

According to what my resource reported, Apple is working on a new 12-inch MacBook Pro that will be released in 2023. We do not know the processor yet but it is supposed to be equipped with M2 Pro and M2 Max, this suggests that it could join to the new 14 and 16 inch lineup.

As for the leaker’s accuracy, they recently tweeted that Apple was working on a new 14-inch iPad Pro, something that was later backed up by display industry analyst Ross Young. That might suggest that they have a finger on the pulse inside Apple’s supply chain, although we will need to wait for further reports over the coming months to be sure.

Apple’s previous 12-inch machines were relatively low-powered Intel models that were often derided for their poor performance and lack of ports. It would be quite the turnaround if that machine became a MacBook Pro with Apple’s fastest chip inside.
