PS5 Leak Shows Design Of Sony’s Next-Gen Game Console

The PS5 is still a good long way from being a reality but that hasn’t stopped Sony from making all the right noises.

The company has already been sharing details about how fast that machine will be, and now we have more information on what it will look like. Or at least, what the development kits look like.

A Sony design patent from Brazil shows what is claimed to be the PlayStation 5 and it’s certainly something that doesn’t resemble anything we’ve already seen console makers try in the past.

Now game developer Matthew Scott has gotten involved via a now deleted tweet. According to the developer, whose LinkedIn profile says he works at Codemasters, the device is a development kit. In fact, he says that his company already has some of those kits in-office.

its a dev kit we have some in the office
Sony patent shows PlayStation 5 devkit – or maybe even the console itself

That tweet was followed by another from someone else in the industry who shared drawings of the device.

It’s certainly an odd design at this point it’s important to remember that the shipping PS5 might not look anything like this. Development kits often very dissimilar to the devices that ship to customers, for example.

Even better, a Dutch publication, LetsGoDigital, took the drawings, and produced beautiful renders of this supposed development kit.

If Sony is to follow its timescales of launching PS5 next year then we expect an official outing of the console in the first few months of the year. We’ll have all of our questions answered then, if not sooner, so until then we’ll be taking this with a pinch of salt.

We suggest you do the same.
