Jony Ive Reportedly Hired At Least Four Designers From Apple For LoveFrom

Jony Ive reportedly raided Apple for talent, taking at least four designers to his new firm – LoveFrom. The report, coming out of The Information, cites a “person with knowledge of the situation”.

The four designers in question are Wan Si, Chris Wilson, Patch Kessler, and Jeff Tiller according to the report.

Two of the designers in particular are thought to have been critical to some important aspects of iOS and watchOS – Wan and Wilson.

The two designers, for example, share credit on a patent for the Health app icon in Apple’s iOS operating system and also were part of a team that designed the Apple Watch’s home screen. Wan contributed to the interface of the iPhone’s Weather app and the design of buttons in the iOS Control Center, while Wilson helped design the iCloud icon and several user interfaces for the Apple Watch’s operating system, according to patent filings. Wilson joined LoveFrom in July 2020, while Wan came on board in May 2021.

It isn’t clear how amicable this whole situation was, but we do know that Apple doesn’t like to lose good talent.

Ive’s LoveFrom is said to have agreed to do work with Apple, although we’ve yet to hear anything about what that might entail or if it is already underway. The company did sign a deal with Airbnb back in 2020, however.
