iPhone SE 2, New iPad Pro Slated For Early 2020, Apple AR Headset To Follow

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has a history of getting predictions about new products eerily right, so when he says that he thinks we will see a new iPad Pro as well as an iPhone SE 2 in the first quarter of 2020, we take notice.

That’s exactly what he said in a new Chinese language report recently, with a new Apple AR headset also potentially arriving the following quarter. If that’s the case, the first half of 2020 could be a big one.

Regarding the headset, Kuo says that he expects Apple to use a number of “third-party brands” to help it get the first round of AR headsets ready for prime time. We’re still not 100% sold on the idea of the headset, but there’s already too much smoke for there to be no fire here.

The new iPad Pro lineup is much more interesting to us. Rumors already have the new tablets sporting a new iPhone 11 Pro-like camera bump, and now Kuo says that a 3D time-of-flight sensor will be included. It’s similar to the True Depth system already used by Face ID, but being rear facing means we expect this one to be aimed at improving augmented reality applications. After all, all roads seem to lead to AR at Apple right now.

The new iPhone SE 2 rumor will be interesting to a lot of people. It’s expected to be iPhone 8-like in size and shape, but with the recent A13 CPU at its heart. Again, a first quarter 2020 launch could be interesting and would make it the first non-September iPhone launch in some time.
