Fortnite Comes Back To iPhone And iPad Thanks To Microsoft Xbox Cloud Gaming

Fans of Fortnite who want to play on their iPhone and iPad are in for some good news — it’s back! But not via the App Store.

Instead, Fortnite is now playable on Apple’s mobile devices via Microsoft Xbox Cloud Gaming. And it’s completely free.

While Fortnite was already free via the App Store, some might have expected its appearance on Xbox Cloud Gaming to require an Xbox Live subscription. That isn’t the case, however, with Microsoft saying that anyone can play without handing over a dime.

As part of our mission to bring the joy and community of gaming to players wherever they are and to make gaming more accessible to people around the world, I’m excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Epic Games to make Fortnite available on supported browser-enabled devices for free with Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) in 26 countries.

All people need is a Microsoft account and a device with a web browser and internet access. Square those things away and you’re good to go — just visit xbox.com/play and sign in.

This Xbox Cloud Gaming version of Fortnite supports both touch-based and controller play, making it a real winner! In a world where it seems unlikely that we can expect Epic Games and Apple to allow Fortnite back into the App Store any time soon, this is the best we could hope for. The fact Microsoft is doing it all for free is even better!
