Next week, Apple will roll-out the new iOS 4.1 firmware for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPad and iPod touch. This new firmware like iOS 4.0.2 will require another exploit for jailbreak as the loophole which was found in iOS 4.0.1 was quickly fixed by Apple in iOS 4.0.2. Comex will be on it once Apple releases the firmware to public early next week.
Finally! After a long wait, YourTube app has been updated to version 2.0, bringing full iOS 4.x support for jailbroken iOS devices including the support for iPhone 4 Retina Display and iPad. Not only can you now download YouTube videos on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, but you can now also import all your downloaded video in iPod app seamlessly! This new feature is dubbed as “Gremlin” and will also be available later for other Cydia apps such as Safari Download Manager and Attachment Saver.
When we talk about touchscreen-only Tablets, the first device that pops up in mind is the iPad. It is an awesome device in many ways, provided that you find some good use for it. When iPad was launched earlier this year, it was pushed as a device to innovate the way we use our computers, just like what iPhone did with smartphones back in 2007.
Finally, the official Twitter client for iPad has been released. Feature wise, this is probably the most complete Twitter client for iPad to date. Some of the features, as listed by the official Twitter blog are as follows.
Apple has just announced iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. It will be available in November of this year as a free update for all. Because of hardware limitations, not all the features will be available for all the iOS devices.
I don’t know if this is first for an Apple event but well, Apple has just announced that they are going to live stream September 1st “Special Media Event” which will be mainly geared towards their new 2010 iPod lineup. You will have to have either a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard, an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad to watch the streaming. If you are a Windows user, you will be out of luck which kinda sucks in my opinion.
iTunes App Store, which was launched back in 2008 with the introduction of iPhone 3G and iPhone software 2.0 (now iOS) has just passed a quarter million apps mark this Friday, with more than 50,000 developers working on them. As of the time of writing this article, the tally stands at 252,227 apps to date. This includes apps for all iOS based devices like iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. If inactive apps are to be counted, then the number of apps go way above 300,000. The Graph below shows the rapid rate at which the App Store is growing.
We have been constantly getting reports from our readers, both by email and in comments about JailbreakMe.com being down for them. If you are unable to access JailbreakMe.com on any if your iOS device, try out the following fixes. One of these will hopefully fix the problem for you so that you can jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
The iPhone Dev-Team has just posted an update on their official blog, giving warning to all those with newer devices like iPhone 4, iPad (on iOS 3.2.2), iPhone 3GS (New bootrom) and iPod touch 3G / 2G (MC-Model) to not update to iOS 4.0.2 as they wont be wasting another exploit for this minor firmware update. Instead, the focus will now be on finding a new exploit which could be used on the next major firmware update i.e. iOS 4.1. I’ll say that is a good move on their part given that final version of iOS 4.1 could be out as early as next week.
Apple has just sent out invites for the “Special Event” which is going to be held on September 1st 2010 at 10AM Pacific Time / 1PM Eastern Time in San Francisco. Expect Apple to announce new iPod touch 4 with FaceTime, iTunes in Cloud, the new Apple TV (dubbed iTV), iOS 4.1 for iPhones and iPod touches and iOS 4 for iPad. Hopefully we will also have more updates related to the availability of White iPhone 4 which has been delayed twice for “until later this year”.
