With yesterday being what would have been Steve Jobs' birthday had he still been with us, there's arguably no better day to show off a new statue of the man. Talk of such a thing has been on the go ever since he died following a battle with cancer, and today is the day that we got to see what it will actually look like.

Oliver Haslam has written about technology for over a decade. His work has been published in print at Macworld and online pretty much everywhere else. If it plugs in or has a battery, it's fair game.
When the likes of Samsung announce a new top-of-the-line smartphone the world tends to sit up and take notice. With the Galaxy S5 being announced by that very same company earlier today at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress, it's fairly safe to say that it gets the attention of not just those that are likely to go out and buy one, but also of the companies that make handsets that compete directly against it.
Historically, Mobile World Congress isn't the place where iOS gamers go to get the lowdown on what they're going to be itching to buy soon. Full of more Android phones than any sane person would ever want to look at as well as all kinds of things far too technical for us, iOS gaming doesn't tend to be on the agenda. Thanks to Mad Katz though, 2014 is a little different.
We're really not all that far into Mobile World Congress 2014, held in Barcelona, but the announcements are already coming thick and fast. The latest to catch everyone's attention is Sony, with the Japanese technology firm today announcing that it is launching a new flagship smartphone, hot on the heels of its not-long-since-announced Xperia Z1S. The new model? The Xperia Z2. They're nothing if not predictable!
Mobile world congress only officially gets started on Monday, but that hasn't stopped Samsung from getting the announcements underway early. While all the focus is understandably on what Samsung's next Galaxy S smartphone will be like, it's the infinitely more wearable Gear smartwatch that has given us the first real news story of Mobile World Congress 2014.
People who are regular jailbreakers tend to have their favorite apps and tweaks in mind when setting up a new device, and invariably one of those tweaks is IntelliScreenX. A hugely popular jailbreak tweak, IntelliScreenX by the folks over at Intelliborn has been around in various guises for quite some time, and it's one of the tweaks that we here at RP like to keep an eye on. It's also one that you like to know all the latest news about, which is why we thought you'd like to get the skinny on what when a new version of the original Notification Center-like tweak will be available.
When iOS 7 was first announced, it had its fair share of changes to demo. Apart from that radical redesign of the interface that left so many people dazed and confused, there were a handful of real features that made the seventh version of Apple's iPhone and iPad operating system a tangible upgrade from what came before it. One of those changes was the addition of Control Center which housed a place for buttons that performed common actions like turning Wi-Fi on and off amongst other things. It's actually one of our most used new features, but it's true that it still needs work. This new iOS 8 concept video takes what Apple started and pushes it to the next level.
Even in this day and age there are plenty of people worldwide that like to collect postage stamps. Once one of the most collected items around, stamps can be worth huge sums of money if preserved well and of a particular vintage and style, so even at a time when communication is becoming more and more of the digital kind, having your face on a stamp is still quite the honor. The Washington Post has gotten wind of a whole slew of new stamps that are on their way into circulation over the next year or two, and one of them in particular will be of interest to technology fans.
Microsoft made a pretty big thing about its rebranding of SkyDrive to the new OneDrive name yesterday, and to try and drum up as much buzz as possible for the old-new service, the Redmond outfit offered a free 100GB of cloud storage to the first 100,000 people to sign into OneDrive.com. Obviously that offer didn't take too long to be exhausted, with news of the offer spreading around the Internet like wildfire.
Google's I/O conference is one that many technology fans like to keep an eye out for. Similar to Apple's WWDC, Google I/O is where the search giant and Android maker shows off what it has been working on and sets forth its plans for where it expects its products to go during the proceeding twelve months. It also offers a chance for developers to get together and trade war stories while getting the skinny from Google's in-house engineering teams.
