Apple has been dealing Samsung a barrage of complaints in its court case against Samsung, claiming the South Korean company has infringed on many of its iPhone and iPad design patents in creating the Galaxy series. As well as the talk of hardware, Apple has, to a lesser degree, had a question or two to ask of various UI elements, but to head off its defense, Samsung has countered by claiming Apple has infringed on a number of its own software-based patents.
Steve Jobs, Apple co-founder and former CEO, is responsible for some of the most iconic products seen in modern technology, and his untimely death in October from pancreatic cancer left a huge hole not only in his own company, but the tech sphere in general.
YouTube is by far and away the most popular viral video site out there, but unfortunately, it's often let down by applications (or lack thereof). Take iOS for example; the native YouTube app is a sluggish affair which has seen little change from the days of iPhone OS, and most now use the vastly superior web-based app to catch up on the latest music videos, drop tests, and amateur comedy sketches.
Such is the manner in which technology moves nowadays, no sooner is one major release out of the way, do consumers, analysts and enthusiasts in general begin nattering about what's up next. Windows 8 has been in our faces for the entire year, after Microsoft dropped the Developer Preview to the public in an unprecedented move, but despite not releasing for another two-and-a-half months, the successor to Windows 8 has already got chins wagging.
The courtroom battle between Apple and Samsung has garnered much media attention over the past few months, with the Cupertino company accusing its Korean rival of "slavishly" copying the designs of both the iPhone and iPad in order to create its Galaxy mobile device range.
Prior to the release of any new device, the current batch always get its prices slashed so as to shift as many as possible as a kind of last hurrah, and it appears the iPhone 4S is entering its twilight phase. The iPhone 4, which has been around for over two years now, has seen price cuts here and there for a while, but the current flagship device, which released back in October of last year, has remained pretty much the same price hitherto.
Although mobile devices offer a seemingly endless plethora of connectivity options, sharing media between devices can still be rather tricky. If you're an Android user, things aren't as stringent as they can often be on iOS, but even so, only a small number of Droid devices actually offer any significant form of Wi-Fi sharing.
A significant refresh of the Mac Pro was expected to arrive at WWDC '12, but the speculation never reached fruition, and the somewhat neglected device still pines for its first changes since 2009. Intel's long-awaited Ivy Bridge chip finally reached the Cupertino company's famed MacBook range at the annual developers conference, and both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro were grateful recipients. Meanwhile, Apple also introduced the first MacBook Pro to ditch the optical drive while also including a beautiful Retina display, and we took this as a sure sign of things to come.
The Internet is a wonderful place. Many of us get lost in cyberspace on frequent occasions whether we're wolfing through YouTube, researching something on Wikipedia, or allowing Google to answer all of our burning questions. Many have attempted to visualize the Internet in the past, but Russian programmer Ruslan Ekineev has created an out-of-this-world depiction, which he calls The Internet Map, and it's certainly something of a masterpiece.
