Aqara Announces The New Smart Door Lock A100 With Apple HomeKit, Home Key Support

Smart home accessory maker Aqara has announced a new smart door lock that not only supports Apple’s HomeKit but also supports the Home Key feature.

That allows people to put their keys into the Wallet app and then use their iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock doors.

The new product is called the A100 Zigbee and we don’t yet know exactly when it will be available or how much it will cost. It’ll first launch in Malaysia and Singapore, but no information on a launch in the United States has been given so far.

The door lock itself will feature a touchpad as well as offering open door alerts and a built-in 18-month battery. But it’s the integration with HomeKit and Home Key that will be most useful.

Users will be able to lock and unlock doors remotely using the Home app, while just tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch near the lock will automatically unlock it via the magic of NFC. Just like Keys can also be shared as needed, too.

The built-in keypad will allow the use of one-time passcodes, perfect for allowing service personnel into your home when you are not there, for example. Those passcodes can also be configured to only work between certain times for security purposes, too.
