Apple’s Next iPad Mini Will Reportedly Use A Mini-LED Screen

Apple is now heavily rumored to be getting ready to announce a new iPad mini within the next few months, and now a new report also claims that the new tablet will make use of a mini-LED screen, too.

While we’ve already heard so much about the iPad mini in recent days, this is the first time anyone has suggested that anything other than LCD would be used for the display.

Now, DigiTimes appears to be suggesting that companies are already getting their ducks in a row for launch.

BLU maker Radiant to kick off shipments for Apple mini-LED backlit devices in 3Q21

Radiant Optoelectronics will kick off shipments of its backlight units for the upcoming mini LED-backlit MacBook Pro and iPad mini later in the third quarter, with the shipments to expand in volume in the fourth quarter, according to industry sources.

The use of a new mini-LED screen would allow for improved brightness and contrast as well as much deeper blacks than would be possible with an LCD screen. Apple already used mini-LED in the iPad Pro, although only at the 12.9-inch screen size.

If this new report is accurate the new iPad mini could be a very interesting tablet indeed. Recent rumors have the new tablet coming with a USB-C port and potentially even a Smart Connector as well. A redesigned chassis is also expected, with the Home button being removed just like the current iPad Air.
