Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE Features, Price, Release Date Announced

Apple has today announced the new Apple Watch Series 8 and refreshed Apple Watch SE. Here’s what you need to know.

Starting with the Apple Watch Series 8, those hoping for a big redesign compared to the Apple Watch Series 7 are set to be disappointed here.

There are some improvements of note, however.

The new watch can detect body temperatures to such a degree that it can now monitor women’s health to the point of being able to monitor menstrual cycles.

“Apple Watch Series 8 takes a unique approach to temperature sensing with a two-sensor design — one sensor on the back of the watch, nearest the skin, and another just under the display — reducing bias from the outside environment,” Apple’s press release says, before saying that its sensor will run every five seconds during sleep.

Just like the new iPhones, Crash Detection is supported so emergency services can be notified should a car accident occur, while a special Low Power Mode works on a range of Apple Watches and takes Apple Watch Series 8 to a full 36-hour battery life when needed.

Apple Watch Series 8 color options include starlight, midnight, silver, and (PRODUCT)RED, while the stainless steel case offers silver, graphite, and gold. Pricing starts at $99 with pre-orders available today and delivery beginning September 16.

As for Apple Watch SE, it’s gaining Crash Detection and a new look back case at a cheaper price. The new watch starts at $249 and will be available from September 16. Pre-orders are now live, but those with the older Apple Watch SE should perhaps consider whether they need to upgrade here.

A faster chip powers the upgraded model, but beyond that there is very little new this time around.
