Apple Releases A Second Studio Display 15.5 Beta Update To Fix Webcam Issues

Apple has today released a second beta update to its Studio Display 15.5 software in an attempt to fix issues that have plagued the monitor’s webcam since launch.

The new update, which is available to those who also have the macOS 12.4 beta installed, can be found by heading to the System Preferences > Software Update entry on a Mac attached to the display itself.

While all Studio Displays can receive their own software updates, those who want to be able to take advantage of the betas will need to also have the aforementioned macOS beta installed, too.

The Studio Display has a 12-megapixel camera that has so far proven lackluster at best, with reviews universally panning its quality. The first beta software update did fix things somewhat, but the difference was negligible. Apple had previously promised a software update would deal with the poor quality webcam.

It’s currently too early to know for sure whether this new beta release actually fixes things for good, but it seems unlikely. The webcam isn’t expected to offer a stunning image given its quality and the cropping required for the Center Stage feature.

However, the $1499 Studio Display’s reception does very much depend on whether Apple can at least make the camera more serviceable than it currently is.
