Apple Adds Its iPad Air 2 And iPad Mini 2 To The Vintage List

Apple has today added the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 to its list of vintage products because it was last sold more than five years ago.

Products are added to that list after the five-year mark, but before the seven-year timeframe. After seven years the products are added to the absolute list.

Apple says that service and parts for vintage products will be offered for up to seven years, subject to the availability of any parts required for repair.

Service and parts may be obtained for longer, as required by law or for up to 7 years, subject to parts availability. Additionally, Mac notebooks may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period for up to 10 years from when the product was last distributed for sale, subject to parts availability.

The iPad Air 2 first went on sale in October of 2014 and was the first to pack a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The iPad mini 2 was the first to get a Retina display, but was essentially the same product as the previous iPad mini beyond that.

Those who own either model should probably look to upgrade sooner rather than later. The current iPad mini and iPad Air are among the best tablets Apple has made to date and can often be found at discounted prices on Amazon.
