Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo Says New AirPods Pro Are Coming Next Year

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has a new research note out that claims Apple will release new AirPods Pro next year. This, as Apple is already expected to release normal AirPods before the end of 2021.

In the note, seen by MacRumors, Kuo says that AirPods sales as a whole are expected to be lower than first anticipated, rounding out at around 75 million of the year. New AirPods Pro will help that next year however, bumping sales to 100 million in 2022.

In his latest investor note, obtained by MacRumors, Kuo says that demand for AirPods is thought to be “lower-than-expected” for the remainder of this year, revising his forecast to 70-75 million, compared to 75-85 million. According to Kuo, the release of the second-generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ next year will boost shipments to more than 100 million.

Kuo also appears to suggest that new features are coming to the new AirPods Pro, something that has been rumored by Bloomberg before.

Some form of health tracking via the ear is a possibility. although we will have to wait for more information about that before we can be sure.

Apple’s AirPods Pro haven’t been refreshed at all since their original release, and with AirPods expected to borrow from the design, it’s likely Apple’s high-end earbuds will change to differentiate themselves once more.
