Amazon’s 2020 Fire HD 8 Tablet Has A New Processor, USB-C, More

Amazon is refreshed the popular and inexpensive Fire HD 8 tablet to increase its speed and add something everyone will be pleased to see – a USB-C port for charging.

The tablet has been in need of a refresh for a while so it’s great to see it get some love. There’s a fancy new Fire HD 8 Plus tablet to go with it that even has Qi wireless charging thrown in.

Starting with the cheaper model, we now have a 2.0 GHz processor that is around 30% faster than the outgoing model. It still has four cores, though. Amazon has also added more RAM to the mix, with 2GB now the order of the day as an upgrade from the previous 1.5GB. Storage has been doubled as well, with 32GB being the starting point.

The only other change of note is the inclusion of USB-C for charging which is something we’re very glad to see. The sooner micro-USB dies, the better.

Pricing starts at $89.99 which is a slight increase over the previous $79.99.

But for $109.99 you can get the Fire HD 8 Plus that comes with a faster charger, wireless charging, and more RAM to the tune of 3GB total. That’s probably the one to go for, but either of the models is a good buy right now.

The refresh also comes to the Kids Edition model, starting at $139.99 with a case and a two-year replacement program should your kid manage to break it.
