2022 11-Inch iPad Pro Is No Longer Expected To Use Mini-LED

Apple is expected to announce a refreshed 2022 11-inch iPad Pro later this year but the device is no longer expected to gain mini-LED technology, something its larger 12.9-inch sibling already offers.

While there were previous expectations that Apple would bring mini-LED to its smaller iPad Pro after keeping it exclusive to the larger one last year, that now seems unlikely according to a tweet by display analyst Ross Young.

Young says that the use of mini-LED is no longer expected this year.

The report says that the 12.9-inch product is “doing really well” and that they “don’t need to do one” at the smaller size, although it isn’t clear why that actually is.

Apple’s iPad mini is the company’s most powerful tablet but given the arrival of a new iPad Air with an M1 chip inside, its crown is beginning to slip. The use of more advanced technology in terms of its screen is one way to differentiate things and while the iPad Air doesn’t support 120Hz ProMotion, the move to mini-LED on the 11-inch iPad Pro would surely have helped differentiate the two devices yet further.
