so I have an iPhone 3GS with official iOS 4.0 firmware (new bootrom)… I have an AT&T sim card… so this is should UNLOCK it for me?

Amazing, I was thinking of buying a GoPhone SIM for AT&T just to use to activate, but I wasn't sure if it would work. This is a way better solution. I will definitely go buy a Phonebook SIM today.

im confused (and probably stupid) so after you activate the phone with the phonebook card, do you just pull it out and re-insert your normal sim… and start making calls… because somehow, that sounds really simple.

good work. However, to me it does not matter. It still involves buying an extra sim card whether a used at&t or the a phonebook simcard which is not widely available.

I live in Canada and bought an iPhone 4 on Ebay from somebody in the US and am waiting for an unlock to be released. But I have a 3G iPad and just tried the micro SIM card from it and it obviously didn't activate the iPhone 4 but thought I would give it a shot. Then I remembered I had an old AT&T card from an original iPhone that I bought in the US years ago. I trimmed the SIM to the same size as my iPad micro SIM and tried it in the iPhone 4 just as the video shows and VIOLA! It activated it! So you don't necessarily need the phone book SIM but thought I would pass on that info for you guys.

I activated my frnd's iphone 3gs (new bootrom, 05.12.01) with my iphone settings while restoring to 3.1.3 in my computer with a random SIM…its not the straight-forward way but i think its still saves few $$ from buying phonebook sim..
Then i jailbroke it with spirit and unlocked by ultrasn0w…my frnd haven't complain about anything yet…
I'm not that into technical things but still it works…u guys can try…

This sim card is for people bought thair IPhone from abroad, like China to UK So you need Phonebook simcard to activate to see inside apps, without it your iphone is not good, even to jailbreak this days you need activated iphone like sprit and so on. good luck. this is my opinion I could be wrong knowledge is wide.

It will just give a life to your iPhone like you can use WiFi, listen to music. You will still have to jailbreak and unlock to use your phone with another sim card. I bought the PhoneBook Card and it works like a charm!!

The worst problem here. iPhone 4 can’t be activated with PhoneBook Card. Because iPhone 4 doesn’t recognize the phonebook card.

Not so easy to find a phonebook card. I went to three RadioShacks in LA…never heard of a phonebook card. Neither did BestBuy or Staples or Office Depot. So? where does one get one? Not even on eBay!!
