Western Digital’s New NVMe-Based Portable SSD Is Blazing Fast

Western Digital has today announced a new portable SSD that is so fast it’ll knock your socks off. With transfer speeds of up to 1050MB/s thanks to its USB 3.2 Gen-2 connection, it’s easy to see where this drive is aimed.

That’s squarely at the content creation market, in case you were wondering. Photographers and videographers both create a ton of data while on the move and need to be able to move it around as quickly as possible. And with transfer speeds as high as the new WD My Passport SSD’s, that’s all under control.

Now more than ever, consumers are looking to empower their productivity by keeping their files and increasingly large content libraries with them. Creators can move and edit high-quality content nearly twice as fast with the new My Passport SSD compared to the previous version of the drive, saving time to do more. Whether on a laptop or desktop while at home, in the office or on the go, professionals can reliably store their data on this drive.

While Western Digital isn’t able to tell us exactly when the new portable drives will go on sale, we do know that 500GB and 1TB options will be available on day one with more coming in the future.

Pricing will start at $119.99 for the lower capacity version, while 256-bit encryption and backup software will also be included in the pack.

Now we just need Western Digital to tell us when these things will be ready for us to buy although it says that some retailers should have them available now.. Pre-orders are available now, however.

Buy: WD My Passport SSD 500GB, 1TB, 2TB: Starting at $120
