Tesla Design Chief Says There’s ‘Nothing To Look Forward To’ In Apple’s Products

Tesla design chief, Franz von Holzhausen, has spoken about Apple, its designs, and products during a podcast in which he says that there is “nothing to look forward to.”

Speaking during a podcast interview on the Spike’s Car Radio podcast, the Tesla designer said that Apple’s designs are more iterative than they should be.

The sad part about Apple products now is like there’s nothing to look forward to. I feel like it’s just a continuation. It’s just a slight refinement on the same thing. Inspirationally, it’s been hard to get super motivated by what they’re doing.

The same interview saw von Holzhausen say that he wears an Apple Watch but only for the “fitness thing side to it,” apparently missing the point that this is exactly the reason most people wear them. Apple has made a big deal about turning Apple Watch into a fitness wearable as much as anything else in recent years.

Franz von Holzhausen has been at Tesla since 2008 and is responsible for all of its car’s designs including the outlandish Cybertruck — a vehicle that Tesla has been unable to put into production since it was introduced in 2019.

Recent reports have the car now delayed until 2023 at the earliest with Tesla having already missed multiple timescales for the truck to go into production.
