With the introduction of iOS 5, Apple dramatically re-imagined the way that their mobile operating system handles user-facing notifications. On the whole, users were extremely happy to see the change considering that the old method of presenting a bland and intrusive alert provided a negative user-experience and interrupted whatever the user was doing on the device.
Earlier today, Pod2g took to his Twitter timeline to confirm to the world that his upcoming untethered jailbreak for devices running iOS 5.1.1 is in its final stages, and will be released in the coming days, but no exact ETA was given. And now, Xvolks, who is a part of Pod2g's jailbreak team has shown off the untether in action on video using an updated version of the tool which gained a lot of fame and attraction a few months back, Absinthe.
It's always nice to wake up to some good news relating to the jailbreak scene, and that is exactly what has happened this morning. Continuing the tradition of keeping his fans and users informed, French researcher and jailbreak producer Pod2g has taken to his Twitter timeline to let the jailbreak loving world know that the up and coming jailbreak 5.1.1 untethered should be ready for a public outing in the next few days.
Regardless of how much Apple improve iOS - their mobile operating system - there are always going to be parts of the software that just don't sit right with users. Unfortunately, you can't please everyone all the time, but the technology giants could do a little bit more to implement certain features and capabilities that seem like a glaringly obvious omission from the OS.
In my opinion, iOS developers who exist within the jailbreak community should be placed high up on a pedestal and praised for their efforts in making Apple's mobile operating system a nicer and more functional piece of software to use. Don't get me wrong, a stock installation of iOS is still an iconic piece of work, but with the help of a few carefully chosen tweaks and packages, it becomes almost perfect.
The news of Pod2g's progress regarding an untethered iOS 5.1.x untethered jailbreak earlier this week made for exciting reading, and via a blog post, he revealed which devices will be compatible once released. And now, pod2g has confirmed via a tweet on Twitter, that the iPhone 3GS and the third-gen iPod touch have been tested as working along with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, whilst each iPad iteration will also be supported. Although the iPad 2's jailbreak currently only covers the Wi-Fi model, both the Wi-Fi an CDMA versions of the recently released new iPad will see the untethered jailbreak!
I love Apple's iOS, I really do, but while I do see the value and benefits in other mobile operating systems like Android and Windows Phone, they just don't provide the full mobile experience for me, at least. With that said, Apple definitely has some work to do to make iOS all that it can be and that includes addressing the blatant issues that the multitasking app switcher has had since its introduction in iOS 4.0.
Being an iOS device owner is somewhat a bitter experience.
