In about 17 hours from the time I type this, Apple will open the doors at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California where they will be announcing the next iPhone. We have seen plenty of rumors and reports and leaks over the past few weeks and months which give a definite shape to the illusive device’s hardware, but there’s one thing in the air that is still heavily discussed and, so far, inconclusive: the next iPhone’s name.
The iPhone is an extremely powerful piece of kit and comes embedded with a more than capable on-board camera which produces some wonderful images that can then be shared across a variety of social networks or uploaded to popular apps like Instagram for the world to see.
The iPhone 5 is only a day away from announcement, but such is the veil of secrecy around upcoming Cupertino products, that we've still only had a few sightings of the device at this late stage. Plenty of dummy models have also been doing the rounds throughout much of Europe and Asia, and it now appears those non-working replicas are beginning to filter through to the United States.
Although a large number of people were a little disappointed when the news came through that Apple would be removing the native YouTube app with the launch of iOS 6, but the blow was softened a little with the news that Google would release their own official app that would offer all that video viewing goodness to iPhone and iPod touch users. We are still waiting for the official launch of iOS 6, but Google have made good on their promise, with their official YouTube app landing in the iOS App Store today.
The battle for supremacy in the cloud-based services has definitely stepped up a notch or two over the past few months, with a host of companies joining a territory manned mainly by Dropbox. Apple kicked things off by launching iCloud along with iOS 5 back in October of last year, and Microsoft finally brought SkyDrive to the mainstream in the early stages of 2012 - laying the foundations for the eventual release of its so-called "Cloud OS" - Windows 8.
Every time we think that the market for take-a-photo-apply-a-filter-share-it type apps is saturated and there is nothing more that can be done now that hasn’t already been done in one way or the other, an app like Etchings comes along that offers a bunch of never-before-seen filters that make us go wow. Check it out after the jump!
If you find yourself growing tired of the native Camera app which Apple bundles with the iPhone and iPod touch, then it may be time to rifle through the App Store and find an alternative that better suits your needs. Camera+ is one extremely popular option, bur those who want to step away from the more mainstream and accepted alternatives, then the future could be PowerCam. The name of the app pretty much gives away what the developers have tried to achieve with this app and you have to hand it to them for building an all singing all dancing piece of photography-based kit.
If you had mentioned the possibility of having standard access to the ability to print three-dimensional solid objects from a digital image a few years ago, then most people would have turned their noses up and say that it would never be possible unless the user had a shed load of cash to invest in the process. In some aspects, that has actually proven to be true, with 3D printing being available but not exactly the cheapest thing in the world. Fortunately, thanks to processes being introduced that remove much of the hassle behind designing prints, the whole process is becoming cheaper and more accessible.
We are fast approaching the day of reckoning for all the internet's tipsters and speculation starters, and we’re only just days away, rather than weeks or months, until Apple introduce us to the sixth-generation iPhone, allowing us to see for ourselves how many rumors will actually come true. With that said, the random rumor roundabout is still pumping out possible inclusions and specifications for the highly anticipated new iPhone, with the new dock connection setup being the latest to be shown the treatment.
If you thought that just because we are less than a week away from the official Apple media event, then we are done with the emergence of iPhone-related speculation and rumors, well, it’s probably the time to think again. Although Tim Cook and his team will take to the stage of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in just five days time, the sixth-generation iPhone rumor mill is still managing to grind out some new and rather interesting possibilities.
