Sony Announces Backbone One PlayStation Edition Controller For iPhone

Sony and Backbone have today announced the Backbone One — PlayStation Edition, a special version of the existing Backbone One that is designed to give PlayStation gamers the best experience when playing on their iPhone.

The Backbone One was already a great controller for people playing mobile games on their iPhone, but this new version is white like the PS5 and comes with PlayStation-specific buttons. It even looks a little like an exploded DualSense controller.

Sony says that was the idea all along.

The look and feel of the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition was brought to life by our design team in collaboration with the brilliant minds at PlayStation. The elegant colors, materials, and finishes are all inspired by the design of the PS5 console’s DualSense wireless controller, all the way down to the transparent face buttons and its visually distinctive, floating appearance. It feels right at home with the other products in the PS5 lineup, like the Pulse 3D headset, which you can connect directly to the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition.

Using the Remote Play app, gamers will be able to use this controller to remotely play their PS4 and PS5 games using broadband internet. But the controller will also work great with games that are available via the App Store, including Apple Arcade.

The controller itself doesn’t need to be charged and is powered by your iPhone, and will be available in United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom at launch. The controller is available for order now for $99.99.
