Sonos Announces The $169 Portable Roam Speaker With AirPlay 2 And More

Speaker maker Sonos today announced the portable $169 Roam speaker and as the name suggests, it’s designed for use outside the home as well as inside it.

It’s more portable than anything that Sonos already offers, and is also the most affordable speaker the company currently sells, too.

Sonos says that the new speaker automatically switches between WiFi and Bluetooth 5,0 depending on what’s needed and where the speaker is being used, while built-in LEDs indicate the device’s current battery level as well and more.

Enjoy the unmatched Sonos experience on Wifi, and stream directly from your smartphone, tablet, or computer using Bluetooth.

Roam automatically connects to your home network and pairs with your phone when you’re away. So all you have to think about is what to play.

The feature list is a strong one with support for Apple AirPlay 2 as well as voice control. The speaker itself is both drop resistant and waterproof with a rating of IP67 making it the perfect companion for taking to the beach or the pool. You can look forward to a 10-hour battery from a single change, making those days out easier on the stress levels.

While it’s designed to be used on its own, two Roam speakers can be used as a stereo pair as well. You’ll have to wait until April 20 before you can get yours though, with both Shadow Black and Lunar White colors available.
