Samsung Galaxy S10 Smartphones Come With McAfee Anti-Virus App Pre-Installed

The thought of an Android phone shipping with random apps installed that you don’t want and will never use is unfortunately nothing new, and Samsung’s recently announced Galaxy S10 is continuing the tradition.

According to the company, the new flagship will ship with McAfee’s security apps pre-installed.

Depending on where you live, that means a you will get one or both of McAfee’s Secure WiFi and VirusScan features, both apparently free of charge. When it comes to Secure WiFi, you’ll get 250MB of data to play with per month, but as you might expect, you can pay should you want more wiggle room.

McAfee announced it is extending its long-standing partnership with Samsung to safeguard consumers from cybersecurity threats on Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones, which come pre-installed with anti-malware protection powered by McAfee VirusScan. It will also support Samsung Secure Wi-Fi service that McAfee provided backend infrastructure to protect consumers against risky Wi-Fi.

We’re never fans of phones coming with apps like this pre-installed, and we will be interested to see how pervasive they are. That being said, at least these two apps are aimed at helping users stay safe rather than suck up their data, although we do always wonder about any sort of VPN service that is free, even for a limited amount of data each month.

The Galaxy S10 will go on sale in the coming weeks, with three models available initially – Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and Galaxy S10e. All three are great devices to look at, and we’re very interested to see what the reception is like when early orders start to arrive in the hands of buyers.
