Report: Apple Not Working On 2nd-Gen AirPods Max Yet But We Might See New Colors This Year

Apple isn’t planning to refresh the popular AirPods Max headphones this year, but we might see some new colors be released. That’s according to the well-connected Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

As part of a larger piece discussing the AirPods and AirPods Pro, Gurman mentioned that it isn’t expected that Apple will release a new version of the AirPods Max headphones in 2021.

But that doesn’t mean that AirPods Max won’t get any love, with Gurman suggesting that new colors could be coming.

The last AirPods-related hardware introduction from Apple was the over-ear AirPods Max headphones in December. That $549 pair earned criticism for bugs and its high price but praise for its materials and sound. Apple only recently caught up with demand for the product, and it is not currently working on a second generation of the AirPods Max, though it has discussed launching additional color variations in the future.

Apple currently offers AirPods Max in Space Gray, Silver, Green, Sky Blue, and Pink. The idea of more colors being made available makes tons of sense, and some form of customization was always rumored before the headphones shipped late last year. Could Apple be set to go that route now?

AirPods Max launched in December 2020 and priced at $549, they definitely aren’t cheap. They do sound great however, and Apple has struggled to keep stocks available for those who want to splash the cash.
