Microsoft Windows 11 Release Date Announced, Here Are The Details

Microsoft has today confirmed that it will make Windows 11 available to everyone this October 5, 2021. Users will be able to download the free upgrade to Windows 11 on eligible Windows 10 PCs.

Machines that ship with Windows 11 installed will also be available to buy from that same date, completing the rollout of Microsoft’s big new release.

There is, however, a caveat. The free updates to Windows 11 will be a phased approach, meaning some people might not get their update until mid-2022. Microsoft says that Windows 10 will tell them when the update is available for download and installation.

The free upgrade to Windows 11 starts on October 5 and will be phased and measured with a focus on quality. Following the tremendous learnings from Windows 10, we want to make sure we’re providing you with the best possible experience. That means new eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first. The upgrade will then roll out over time to in-market devices based on intelligence models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience.

Microsoft also outlined a number of new machines that will ship with Windows 11 installed, including the Acer Swift 5 and Acer Swift X notebooks. Those looking for something bendier will enjoy the Asus Zenbook Flip 13, too.

Anyone looking to learn more about what Microsoft had to say about the rollout can head over to the announcement blog post to do just that.
