Latest Report Reaffirms That iPhone 12 Will Ship Without Charger And EarPods, Features OLED Display In All Models

If you’ve been anywhere near the internet in recent weeks you’ve probably seen rumors that Apple won’t ship the iPhone 12 lineup with a charger or earphones in the box. Now another outlet has backed those rumors up, with Nikkei sharing a report that adds further fuel to the fire.

Nikkei’s report includes information that we’ve become comfortable with in the last few months – Apple will ship four iPhones later this year with all of them offering an OLED screen.

It’s the first time Apple has put such a screen in all of its new releases and it will further blur the lines between mid-range and high-end models. But that isn’t the important point.

That’s the further assertion that we won’t see a charger or earbuds ship with the iPhone 12. Why? People simply already have what they need.

“To lower the cost a bit is one reason, but not necessarily the most important one… The reason why Apple does not include those two accessories is also because a lot of existing iPhone users already have many of them over the past few years,” according to a source with knowledge of Apple’s thinking.

We’re still not sure about that, but we wouldn’t rule it out. Apple will no doubt point to the amount of e-waste it will be preventing and who knows, we might get another mention of “courage” like we did when it announced the removal of the iPhone 7’s headphone jack.
