Kuo: MacBook Air With mini-LED Display Will Ship By 2022

Apple is already expected to announce a new iPad Pro with mini-LED technology within the next few weeks, but it appears we can expect the MacBook Air to get the same technology sooner rather than later.

According to a new Ming-Chi Kuo research note, the new notebook will launch at some point in 2022.

The research note was seen by MacRumors and shared earlier today.

We expect that the new ‌MacBook Air‌ will adopt a mini LED in 2022, increasing MacBook’s mini LED adoption rate. In contrast, only high-end iPad models will use mini LED displays, and the overall growth momentum may be lower than that of MacBooks.

The new 2022 MacBook Air will obviously also ship with Apple silicon inside. Suppliers will also benefit from the use of mini-LED across Apple’s range, the note suggests, with the MacBook Pro also making the move to the new technology to help with weight and thickness.

We expect the new MacBook Pro will boost the shipment of mini LED displays in 2H21 because the new MacBook Pro will equip with mini LED displays, and MacBook’s mini LED display is less challenging to produce than the ‌iPad‌. We forecast that mini LED display shipments in 2021 and 2022 to be 10 million and 20–30 million, respectively.

We’re now expecting the first iPad Pro with mini-LED technology to ship next month, making that the first Apple device to take advantage of it to date.
