Facebook Launches Dedicated Messenger Video and Text Chat App For Mac And Windows

It’s pretty amazing that it’s taken this long to happen, but Facebook Messenger now has a standalone app that can be used on Windows and macOS. And of course it’s free, too.

The app does all the things that you would expect from Facebook Messenger and that includes both text and video messaging.

There’s even support for Dark Mode on macOS as well. People are still excited about that, right?

Once you have downloaded the Facebook Messenger app you simply sign in as you would any other app, but this time using your Facebook credentials. Everything syncs across your devices, whether you’re using this app, the website, or the mobile apps. Notifications will also work, so you’ll never miss a call or a message again.

Now more than ever, people are using technology to stay in touch with the people they care about, even when physically apart. Over the past month, we saw more than a 100% increase in people using their desktop browser for audio and video calling on Messenger. Now with apps for MacOS and Windows, the best of Messenger is coming to desktop, including unlimited and free group video calls.

Right now is the obvious time for Facebook to make this app available. The coronavirus pandemic has people working from home a ton, and with people not able to leave their homes to visit friends and family this is one of the few ways they can communicate.

The app can be downloaded for free right now from the Microsoft Store and the Mac App Store.
