Critical Bug Fix For Substrate Safe Mode Released For Checkra1n, Unc0ver Users

If you’re using a jailbreak that in turn uses Cydia Substrate, you’re going to want to go about updating that sooner rather than later.

This likely applies to users of the checkra1n and unc0ver jailbreaks, which is also probably most jailbreakers out there right now. If that sounds like you, be sure to head into Cydia or whatever you use for package management and get the new Substrate Safe Mode update. Do it now.

That’s because a critical bug fix has been released and you’re going to want it. You’re looking for version 0.9.6003, with the checkra1n team announcing its arrival early on Friday.

So why is this such an important update? From what we’re hearing, the bug that’s now been fixed can mean that a jailbroken device will simply refuse to power on properly. That’s obviously not a situation that anyone wants to find themselves in, so we are going to say it again – update ASAP.

The latest Substrate update includes fixes for a critical bug that would prevent devices from booting while in jailbroken mode. Make sure to update!

This is perhaps the latest proof that even though jailbreaking gets easier and less cumbersome with time, there is still the potential for something pretty catastrophic to happen. You’re making iPhones and iPads do things they were never supposed to do, so there’s always the chance for something to go awry. Just make sure you’re all updated and we’re sure you’ll be fine, though.
