OS X Mountain Lion Found Running On Surface Pro [VIDEO]

Goncalo Ribeiro·February 21, 2013
For years, PC users have figured out ways to modify OS X in order to run it on regular non-Apple-designed machines. According to a video published on YouTube, a Microsoft Surface Pro user has managed to install Apple’s newest operating system on the newly-released Microsoft PC device.

New Windows Blue Screenshots Indicate Significant NT Kernel Change [IMAGE]

Ben Reid·February 20, 2013
Microsoft has been preparing its Windows Blue updates for quite a while now, and screenshots of some of the latest developments have begun to emerge via several sites dedicated to the Redmond company's flagship operating system. The screenies reveal two different builds of what is referred to internally as Windows Blue, and although build numbers are unconfirmed, TheVerge has learned that Microsoft recently pushed its NT kernel up to 6.3.

Firefox 19 Released, Get Downloading Now!

Ben Reid·February 19, 2013
Mozilla has just released Firefox 19 for users of the Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, and among a plethora of new features comes an in-built PDF viewer. Since increasing its release schedule, Mozilla has stuck almost religiously to its six-week cycles, and although it's rare - in software terms - to see a whole number update pertaining to only a few minor changes, it helps Mozilla keep up with Google's rampant Chrome browser.

Metro / Modern Firefox Browser For Windows 8 Being Handed Out To Testers, Public Launch Soon

Ben Reid·February 13, 2013
Mozilla's biggest export is Firefox, and with Windows 8 having been in circulation for a few months now, the next stage of preparations for a version of the popular browser tailored to Microsoft's latest OS release have begun. Last week, the Metro/Modern-ized browser reached Mozilla's nightly build channel, and today, it has reached Mozilla-central. Although Firefox desktop product manager Asa Dotzler confessed there is still "plenty of work" to be done, it has now reached a point where it is stable enough for regular testing.

First Surface Pro TV Commercial ‘The Vibe’ Goes On Air, Features Lots Of Dancing, As Usual [VIDEO]

Paul Morris·February 11, 2013
If you've been trying to get your hands on one of Microsoft's 128GB Surface Pro tablets then the chances are that you've already come across some difficulties in sourcing a retail location that has them in stock. The majority of locations are showing that Microsoft's powerhouse tablet is out of stock of the 128GB model, with minimal supplies of the smaller 64GB variant being available. The fact that users have acted quickly in snapping up the stock is bitter sweet for Microsoft. Great that there is a keen interest in the product, but potentially problematic, considering the official Surface Pro advertisement campaign has begun with the launch of "The Vibe" TV spot.

Microsoft My Server App For Windows 8 / RT Released

Ben Reid·February 2, 2013
The release of Windows 8, has, quite inevitably been followed by the release of Office 2013 and Office 360, but this time around, the Redmond company has been hard at work on several other apps as it tries to establish its new-look operating system across its vast user base. The Windows Store needs as many decent new apps as it can get, and today, another in-house offering arrives in the form of My Server.

How To Downgrade Windows 8 Pro To Windows 7

Aatif·January 25, 2013
With Windows 8, Microsoft made some different (if not difficult) choices, especially when it comes to licensing. You would already know that Windows is a closed-source operating system, and hence, when you purchase a copy of Microsoft Windows, you’re basically acquiring a ‘license to use’ for the operating system, and not the OS itself. When the company released Windows 8, one of the approaches that they took to making it even more popular (and combat piracy at the same time) was making it available for lower prices as compared to previous versions. This, at the same time, brought on some tough licensing choices, too. For instance, Microsoft had to do away with native DVD playback capability in Windows 8, because the patent holder for MPEG-2/4 (the video codec required to play said media) charges Microsoft $2 per copy of Windows 7 (the relative figure) sold. They had to cut back on such costs to achieve the pricing point that Windows 8 claims.

Surface Pro Overview Video Reminds Us Of How Powerful The Device Is

Ben Reid·January 25, 2013
With the Surface Pro almost upon us, Microsoft has naturally offered consumers a subtle nudge as to why the tablet + ultrabook is the right device for them. Since consumers and commentators have doubted the Surface RT's credentials as a true PC (for obvious reasons), the Redmond company has felt inclined to remind the market of the Surface Pro's PC prowess. While the RT has come under fire for not running legacy apps, lacking power, and generally failing in many of the key areas one would expect a PC to deliver, the Surface Pro is a different animal. And boy, do Steve Ballmer and Co. want to emphasize that point.

How To Record Skype Video Calls On Windows And Mac

Paul Morris·January 22, 2013
With Microsoft making the announcement that they would be closing down the Windows Live Messenger platform and recently confirming that closure date; there will undoubtedly be a lot more attention paid to Skype. Windows Live Messenger users will automatically have their accounts migrated across to Skype to allow them to simply download the software, log in and begin sending IMs, making video and audio calls to their contacts.
