We've all heard of drop tests, and there have even been cases of people blending new technology in the past. It's something of a right of passage for new smartphones especially, with the humble drop test not just offering entertainment for those who like to destroy things, but also a real world example of how a phone may survive if dropped whilst out and about.
The iWatch concepts have been rolling through thick and fast these past few months, and with Apple said to have a team of over 100 developers and engineers on the task of bringing such a device to market, it doesn't feel as much of a pipedream as it used to. Martin Hajek is one designer that has really taken to this particular Apple project, and having cooked up a number of concept designs already, has come through with yet another attractive set of iWatch renders. More details, plus lots of images, after the jump.
It’s becoming a case of another day, another iOS 7 concept as we close in on this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, and with the Cupertino company said to be drafting in OS X developers to help ensure the company’s forthcoming mobile OS version is ready on time, the tech world is busy dreaming up new ideas of what could and should be included in the update, commonly known as iOS 7, which is highly expected to debut at WWDC 2013. Today, yet another concept has been brought to our attentions, and offers an intuitive design taking into consideration the new flat surfaces said to be replacing the omni-present skeuomorphism throughout iOS. We’ve got full details, as well as a demonstration video of this rather tasty concept, coming up right after the leap.
Google Glass, though exciting, is not yet available to everybody, and aside from developers, creatives, journalists and competition winners, few have actually had the chance to test out the most exciting technological advance in recent times. One individual who is certainly on the outside looking in is Australian hacker Ash_Williams, but undeterred by his inability to get hold of Glass to try out for himself, he's sought to create his own version from various odds and sods.
It is well documented that when a consumer buys an Apple over a similar product from another brand, they nearly always pay considerably more than that substitute product. But while shelling out over $1,000 for a MacBook Pro is a little too rich for the blood of some consumers, the amount German auctioneer Breker predicts a fully-operational Apple-I to fetch when it goes under the hammer later this month is enough to make anybody's eyes water.
We've all said something on Twitter that we probably shouldn't have, but one tennis star actually managed to say the right thing, just using the wrong smartphone.
Microsoft may be languishing behind Apple and Google in the mobile operating system stakes, but that hasn't stopped the Redmond outfit from coning out on the offensive with its latest Windows Phone ad. You can check it out after the jump.
Fans of Iron Man and other superheroes are serious people when it comes to their favorite franchises, which means they love to buy merchandise. It's the real reason comic books and movies are so lucrative - they make their own money, but it's merchandise where everyone really lines their pockets.
The T3 YouTube channel has posted a very interesting looking concept render of a Google smartwatch, designed very much in the image of the search giant's Nexus brand of products. Running, as you would expect, an adapted version of Android, it would link up with your smartphone to supplement the overall experience by answering calls, syncing calendars, and generally lessening the need for you to incessantly reach for your pocket.
Drop tests provide us with a decent general idea of how a device will fare when faced with the unthinkable. Of course, the idea is to keep a handset protected and try and avoid dropping it from various heights, but should this accident ever occur, drop tests offer a reasonable indication of how robust and durable a device is. Vloggers GizmoSlip posted a clip to YouTube on Friday showing the all-new Samsung Galaxy S4 in a drop test against its predecessor, the Galaxy S III, as well as the Apple iPhone 5. Find out just how much damage each smartphone sustained in the video clip coming up after the break!
