Ben Reid·February 22, 2013

Official Second Screen PlayStation 4 App For iOS And Android Announced

Ben Reid·February 22, 2013
During the big announcement of the PlayStation 4 yesterday, game developer Evolution Studios mentioned that companion app for Android tablets to its Drive Club title would allow gamers to communicate with others from a tablet running Google's software. At the time, it wasn't clear how far compatibility would go with other mobile devices, but Sony has just announced a new version of its ”PlayStation App”, which in turn offers a little more information on the matter. As well as being available to both the Android and iOS-using faithful, it will turn tablets and smartphones into 'second screen' controllers.

How To Disable iMessage Typing Notification On iPhone

Ben Reid·February 21, 2013
Since first making its debut with iOS 5, iMessage has proven itself as a great way for one to share messages between any iOS device, provided a cellular or Wi-Fi connection is present. It's generally secure, rarely drops service, and is a lot quicker and more reliable (and often cheaper) than the traditional SMS. However, it is not perfect, and like so many of iOS's key features, it's annoyingly difficult to customize. The options for tailoring the experience to suit one's needs are scarce, but if you have always been annoyed by the fact that a user on the other end receives that little speech bubble to indicate that you're typing, well, there's a tweak to rectify that!

How To Save Instagram Photos On iPhone From Your News Feed

Ben Reid·February 21, 2013
Instagram has been nothing short of a revelation in its short lifespan. What started out as an app for iPhone now spans multiple devices and platforms, and having been purchased by Facebook last year for an eye-watering one billion dollars, its rise is quite rightly seen as landmark achievement. The app itself however, which allows users to take, edit, share and comment on photos, is certainly not as feature-rich as some would like, and the lack of ability to save photos - as one can on the Web - is certainly a limitation. It's not the be-all, end-all of the Instagram experience, yet is still kind of annoying, but much like the new-found ability to copy text from the Facebook News Feed, a tweak for jailbroken iPhones has been developed to facilitate the saving of Instagram photos from your News Feed directly to the device's camera roll.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 Untethered On iPhone 5, 4S, iPod touch And All Other Devices Using Evasi0n [Tutorial]

Goncalo Ribeiro·February 20, 2013
Evasi0n 1.4 has just been released to jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 untethered on iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, iPod touches, and all other devices. You can download the latest version of Evasi0n from here, and jailbreak using the instructions illustrated below.

Evasi0n Can Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2

Ben Reid·February 20, 2013
The release of iOS 6.1.2 may have fixed the Exchange calendar bug that was eating batteries like tapeworm, but it looks as though it still hasn't prevented the Evasi0n tool from offering an untethered jailbreak. Seasoned jailbreak guru and Evad3rs member Planetbeing has tweeted the good news that his iPhone 5 is jailbreakable on iOS 6.1.2, and although he has yet to test other devices, it's unlikely they'll throw up any nasty surprises. This means that, pending a little more investigation of course, you can update to iOS 6.1.2 and re-jailbreak to enjoy the perks of an untethered jailbreak on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Camera C64 For iPhone Takes You Back To The 16 Color Days Of The Commodore 64

Ben Reid·February 19, 2013
If you remember the eighties and the Commodore 64, you'll know how much of a far cry they were from the computers of today. But it's impossible to shake off the nostalgia we feel when we think about the great times we had with those much-loved older technologies, but seeing as though most Commodore 64 users have thrown the old classic away or stored it deeply away in a loft or attic, developer Thomas Conté has come up with a much more Digital Age method of rejuvenating that initial appeal. He's invented Camera 64, and as the name implies, it delivers your pictures in 16 colors, as if they were the product of the Commodore 64's VIC-II video chip.

New iOS App Switcher Concept By The Designer Of Auxo Offers a Vastly-Improved Multitasking Experience [VIDEO]

Ben Reid·February 19, 2013
Concept ideas help us to visualize a specific new feature or piece of software or hardware, rather than just imagining, and with the faults of iOS 6 having been well-documented of late, it's no surprise that we've seen a slew of concepts purporting to improve elements of Apple's mobile OS. One area which has seen a lot of attention - particularly in the jailbreak scene - is the app switcher, and Sentry, the designer behind Auxo tweak, has come through with another alternative take on how the Cupertino company could reinvent the multitasking bar.

How To Enable The Ability To Copy Text From News Feed In Facebook iOS App

Ben Reid·February 18, 2013
Social networking is quickly becoming a pastime taken up by those on mobile devices. What once required a desktop computer at an internet café is now available with a swipe and a tap, and it's little surprise to see now that an ever-growing majority of Facebook's 1 billion+ user base is now logging in via a smartphone or tablet. One annoyance with the official iOS Facebook app, is the inability to copy text on the News Feed. There are a variety of reasons that one may want to copy information from the feed, such as for the benefit of navigation, and thanks to perhaps the most obviously-named tweak 'Enable Copy text in Facebook app', one now can.

iPhone 5 And Galaxy S III Tied In Web Usage Stakes In The U.S.

Oliver Haslam·February 17, 2013
Web traffic numbers are always a good indication of not just how many handsets have been sold, but also how much people are actually using their respective devices. In years gone past, Web usage has leaned heavily in favor of Apple's iOS, be that iPhones or iPads, but the gap has been closing.
