We love apps, and so do you, so if you got yourself a shiny new iPad or iPhone this Christmas then you probably want to get your hands on some bargain apps to go along with it. With this time of year being so expensive for everyone, we really can’t blame you.
2014 has been one of Apple's strongest years so far. More record-breaking early sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus threw the gauntlet to its competitors, particularly Samsung, and to cap off a great twelve months, the Cupertino company has also pushed some very impressive numbers this holiday period. A total of 51 percent of mobile device activations over Christmas were of Apple products, and with the company's inaugural smartwatch effort looming, the Mac maker looks set for yet more dominance as we head on into 2015.
If for some odd reason you were wondering if your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus is snow proof, that question seems to be have been answered in what can be best described as another crazy experiment posted on YouTube. More on that, right after the jump!
Being able to get refunds for apps bought via the App Store has been at the center of much discussion for some time. While Google gives downloaders two hours to request a refund for apps they bought by mistake or that simply don’t work as advertised, Apple has never really given any proper indication as to its own policy. Plenty of people have successfully received refunds for apps, but the policy has never been as clear as it could be.
When writing emails, responding to WhatsApp or even just making shopping lists, you may find that you're tapping in the same phrases every time. Recognizing this, one app developer has decided to help you save time, creating a keyboard through which you can store and conveniently prepare and access such phrases while bypassing the tedium of keying in the same stuff over and over.
After a substantial amount of early skepticism upon its arrival with the iPhone 5s last year, Apple's Touch ID has settled nicely as a central iOS feature, even expanding to reach the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 just a couple of months back. But it hasn't all been plain sailing, with the fingerprint sensor having been the subject of scrutiny by security experts, and now, it has emerged that it’s theoretically possible to bypass Apple’s latest security measure or any fingerprint based biometric system using a closeup photographs of your fingers and software that is available readily.
The perfect game-meets-art title called Icycle: On Thin Ice is this week's iOS ‘App of the Week’ and is up for grabs absolutely free for a limited time (usually $2.99). There have been a countless number of jailbreak tweaks touted at improving various aspects of the iOS platform's user interface, including the lock screen. The popular LockInfo jailbreak tweak has just landed on iOS 8 after quite a while since Apple’s latest mobile OS was first cracked, and happens to be a beta for now. More information on the tweak, that is LockInfo 8, is available right after the jump.
One of the bigger quirks of iOS 8 running on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is the Reachability feature in these devices, which essentially allows for a convenient one-handed operation despite the large display size of both these phones. In reality, Apple's implementation of one-handed UI for iOS 8 is better than what any other manufacturer has been able to achieve. Still, when you look at Reachability, it's evident that there's so much more that can be done with this feature, especially if it’s opened up to developers. Well, that's what we have jailbreaking for, and thanks to a new tweak released just recently in Cydia, your Reachability space becomes a new multi-tasking interface, providing a mix of the app switcher and Safari's 3D tabs.
