Apple's recent migration to iOS 7 has pretty much guaranteed that any developer who sees a future in their mobile software will be pushing out an update that brings a minimum of visual changes. We've already seen a number of Google's App Store offerings going through the update process, but today is the turn of the extremely popular Hangouts app that has been revised to version 1.3.0.
The launch of iOS 7 was probably one of the best things that could have happened for developers. The dramatic overhaul of the main user-interface, combined with the implementation of varying animations and parallax effects meant that the slate has almost been wiped clean from an application perspective. Previously popular apps run the risk of falling by the wayside if they aren't quickly updated, but it also opens the door for the wheel to be reinvented. The recently released Tick app is one app that stands a great chance of dominating the To-Do list space on iOS 7 thanks to its impeccable detail.
Back last week, Microsoft announced that a Remote Desktop app for iOS and Android would be forthcoming, and staying true to that promise, and in line with today’s Windows 8.1 release, the said app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android has just arrived.
For a company that will ultimately live or die based on the interest shown in their product by the iOS community, it is vitally important to have a strong relationship with Apple Inc. In the case of Anki it can be pretty much be assumed that their bond with the Californian giants is relatively strong considering they were asked to unveil their maiden product - the Anki Drive - during the keynote speech of this year's Worldwide Developer Conference. That first Anki product managed to generate a lot of interest and it's now been announced that the innovative hardware will be available to purchase on October 23rd.
As far as social photograph apps go, Snapchat has proven more popular than most and has seen a take-up the likes of which most other app developers can only dream of. Based on being able to send photos to each other that time-out after a maximum time of 10-seconds, Snapchat's big appeal is that, theoretically at least, users should be safe in the knowledge that what they send won't be there forever.
The App Store is a goldmine of weird and wonderful creations, and although we see plenty of intuitive apps and wonderfully enticing games, sometimes an app comes along so novel that it just has to get a mention. If you've seen some of the official iPhone 5c cases, you'll know that there's one featuring quite a few circular holes on the back. In many ways, it could resemble a Connect 4 board, and thanks to the nous of one developer, the Hasbro classic has been remade to work in conjunction with the new case. Details after the break.
Apple, known for its painstaking attention to detail and unerring design principles has been accused of losing its charm of late, with the iPhone 5c's official case proving quite the catalyst for much discussion about whether the Cupertino firm is as focused on the details as it used to be.
iOS, as most of you will be more than aware, doesn't allow for custom launchers, and having enjoyed several when using Android, it's a great shame that Apple's ecosystem doesn't offer any kind of native support to manipulate the way the home screen looks and functions. However, Launch Center Pro for iPhone, formerly known as App Cubby, offers something resembling the functionality of your traditional Android launcher, and thanks to an update pushing the version number up to 2.0, it's now very much in-keeping with the simplistic beauty of the Cupertino's all-new iOS 7.
When it comes to RPGs, Final Fantasy may not be considered among the best like it once was, but the engrossing, almost iconic nature of the original Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation continues to live on today. In what must go down as the most exciting news for FF fans in a good while now, Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VI will be heading to iOS and Android later this year. Perhaps not surprising, especially given that Final Fantasy IV and V took their respective mobile bows not so long ago, but if you enjoy playing games on your iOS or Android smartphones and tablets, then you won't have to wait too long for Final Fantasy VI to arrive.
We're now just a matter of a month away from seeing Call of Duty: Ghosts' big release, and in the build-up to the very significant date in the gaming calendar, publisher Activision dropped Call of Duty: Strike Team last month for those on iOS. Today, the title has been given a healthy update, bringing support for the all-new iPhone 5s as well as unlocking Survival Mode maps for all players. You can check all of the details, as well as the download link, right after the break.
